Sometimes the best humor comes from real life situations and in today’s case, this is about as real life as it gets, except for the Italian plumber, but whatever.

Okay, the comic is actually inspired by “real life” events.

Steve and I worked at Electronics Boutique. He worked in the one in Maplewood Mall in Minnesota, and I worked at the Cherry Creek Mall location in Colorado.  We both got Nintendo 64 kiosks with Super Mario 64 as a demo.

Now, when Mario jumps into a world and you select a stage, I am pretty sure that he says “Let’s Go”, but Steve swears up and down that he says “pickle”.  Gentle readers, feel free to view the fifty hobillion Super Mario 64 videos on Youtube and decide for yourself.

Steve and I may not agree with what Mario says, but we can agree on this: The Nintendo 64 hardware launch was a human zoo.  I’m actually surprised that we made it through the launch with no casualties.

“Rodents of the Night”

“Rodents of the Night”

This combines two of my favorite things: Castlevania and fuzzy critters (namely hamsters).  Not sure how it culminated in the comic today, but I am positive booze was involved.

I don’t know when I totally became a whore for the Castlevania franchise.  I was a fan of it since the NES version, however I don’t think I was as fanatic about it to the point of froth until Symphony of the Night came out.  I had purchased the import PlayStation version (known as Devil’s Castle Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight) and fell in love with its imagery and Metroid-ness right away (we now call it Metroidvania or Castleroid).  I then got to the Inverted Castle and claimed it best Castlevania EVAR.  Seriously, if you haven’t played it yet, what the hell is wrong with you?

Sad fact: I have four versions of the game.  I have the import PlayStation version, the one on the PSP that came with Dracula X Chronicles (although technically I didn’t need to pick this up as I already had Rondo of Blood on my TurboDuo, but whatever), the rare Saturn version, and a version on XBLA (with the bad voice acting).

I love me some Castlevania.  Except for Castlevania 64.

3D and Castlevania have never sat well with me but Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a good game. Seriously.  I’ve had it several months now, and I plan on playing it at some point again soon.

Wow, I’ve spent a majority on this on Castlevania chattering and never got into the hotness that is Charlotte Aulin or Shanoa.  Maybe next time.

As for hamsters, they are very cute lovable creatures and are not to be confused with their Satan worshiping cousins, gerbils.  It’s important to understand the distinction. See you next week!
