A little background on this for those not entirely familiar with this whole anime (Japanese Animation) thing. Gainax, as mentioned in the comic, is a Japanese animation studio. They have done a lot of stuff (some good, some bad), and their latest anime television series is named (and we are not making this up), “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt”.
There exists an anime trope known as the transformation sequence. Voltron has one, Sailormoon has several, and this series has one.
