“Puella Magi Azumanga Daioh”
Today’s offering is another combination of sorts, not unlike peanut butter and jelly or chocolate and peanut butter. Actually it’s more like chocolate and jelly but you get the idea.
When I first watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica I didn’t know what to expect. It was described as a “deconstruction of a magical girls series”. I’m not sure how accurate that is. It seems darker in tone than the usual magical girls series, but in looking back at previous ones (and bear in mind I really haven’t watched that many), magical girl series in general seem to have darkish tones littered throughout them. I mean, from what I’ve seen of Sailormoon, there are points in the series that are pretty dark. I mean, don’t like half the characters die at some point?
As for Azumanga Daioh, it’s one of my favorite anime of all time. I’m all for goofy slice-of-life type stuff.
Koyomi Mizuhara is my favorite character, but that’s because of the Rank A Zettai Ryouiki she sports. Yep, that’s pretty sad.
Actually, the only reason I pay attention to a lot of series is Zettai Ryouiki. I didn’t get into Fate/Stay Night, but Rin Tōsaka is highly relevant to my interests. Same with Shakugan no Shana.
Okay, I’m sensing that I am getting that look again. Better stop while I am ahead. See you next week.
